Matt
Grossman learned the craft of piano tuning, repair
and restoration as an employee of Campbell’s
Music Co. in Washington, DC beginning in 1975. While
there, he had the opportunity to serve as a concert
piano technician for Campbell’s Steinway
Concert and Artists division where he did work
for the White House, Wolf Trap, the National Symphony
and other high profile venues and customers in
the DC area.
In 1979 Matt was hired by the University of Memphis
as Piano Technologist with the responsibility for 110
pianos, a college level course in piano maintenance
and a two-year Piano Technician Apprenticeship Program.
In 1990 he moved to the University of Louisville to
perform similar duties with 160 pianos.
In 1995 Matt began as a full-time independent piano
tuner/technician. Recognizing the need in the market
place for a business that could deliver the very best
in piano repair and restoration services, he started
a small piano rebuilding shop in Georgetown, Indiana
and Vintage Piano Works was established in 1999. Matt
Grossman is a Registered Piano Technician of the Piano
Technicians Guild Inc., has served as a technical consultant
to piano factories, written articles for the Piano
Technicians Journal and has given numerous educational
presentations for piano technicians and piano teachers.
Wade
Stephenson joined the company in 2001 as a piano
tuner, technician and rebuilder. He is a graduate
of Indiana University with a BA in music. Wade apprenticed
with Matt Grossman while attending college. In addition,
he has had extensive training with the Randy Potter
School for Piano Technology, the Yamaha Little Red
Schoolhouse and through the Piano Technicians Guild
Inc. Wade is a qualified Yamaha Disklavier technician,
