Matt Grossman has worked full-time as a piano tuner, technician and rebuilder for 35 years. He learned the craft of piano tuning, repair and restoration as an employee of Campbell’s Music Co. in Washington, DC beginning in 1975. While there, he had the opportunity to serve as a concert piano technician for Campbell’s Steinway Concert and Artists division where he did work for the White House, Wolf Trap, the National Symphony and other high profile venues and customers in the DC area.
In 1979 Matt was hired by the University of Memphis as Piano Technologist with the responsibility for 110 pianos, a college level course in piano maintenance and a two-year Piano Technician Apprenticeship Program. In 1990 he moved to the University of Louisville to perform similar duties with160 pianos. In 1995 Matt began as a full-time independent piano tuner/technician. Recognizing the need in the market place for a business that could deliver the very best in piano repair and restoration services, he started a small piano rebuilding shop in Georgetown, Indiana and Vintage Piano Works was established in 1999. In 2008 the name Simply Grand was introduced to represent the piano sales operation of the company. Matt Grossman is a Registered Piano Technician of the Piano Technicians Guild Inc., has served as a technical consultant to piano factories, written articles for the Piano Technicians Journal and has given numerous educational presentations for piano technicians and piano teachers. Matt has enjoyed leading and serving on the boards of several community and professional organizations. He is a member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
Wade Stephenson joined the company in 2001 as a piano tuner, technician and rebuilder. He is a graduate of Indiana University with a BA in music. Wade apprenticed with Matt Grossman while attending college. In addition, he has had extensive training with the Randy Potter School for Piano Technology, the Yamaha Little Red Schoolhouse and through the Piano Technicians Guild Inc. Stephenson is an expert piano tuner, technician and rebuilder. Wade is also a qualified Yamaha Disklavier technician, certified PianoDisc installer, a Registered Piano Technician of the Piano Technicians Guild Inc. and a member of Music Teachers National Association.
Lea Wiseheart joined Simply Grand & Vintage Piano Works in 2008 as Business Manager and Sales Consultant. Music has always been an integral and passionate part of Lea's life. She has over 20 years experience as an independent piano teacher, pianist, accompanist and organist for area churches, weddings and other special events. Lea earned her bachelor's degree from Purdue University. While there, she served as pianist and vice president for "Purdue Steam"; Purdue's only student governed show choir. When you contact the store you will most likely speak to Lea on the phone or via email. Ms. Wiseheart is a certified Professional Keyboard Counselor, a member of Music Teachers National Association and is able to assist you with all of your piano needs.
Charlie has been a full time piano
technician for 40 years. Having received his initial education in piano
technology at the Perkins School of Piano Technology in Cleveland, he started
his own piano service business in 1973. Charlie’s
clients include individual piano owners, recording studios, churches, schools,
and institutions. He has trained at the Steinway factory in New York and has
tuned for prominent concert artists including Elton John, Randy Newman, Herbie
Hancock, Andre Watts, Emanuel Ax, and Rudolph Serkin among many others. Charlie
was the exclusive piano technician for the Louisville Orchestra from 1986-1989
and served as the principal technician for the Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary from 2001-2011. He is a consummate piano craftsman, highly skilled and
experienced in all areas of piano work. He enjoys playing piano and spending time
with his dogs. Charlie is a Registered Piano Technician of the Piano
Technicians Guild Inc.
